Improve your legal case, mitigate corporate risk, or better understand complex medical matters

with medico-legal consulting services from Lucid Legal Medicine

Expert medico-legal reports for court, advice and your understanding

We know that deciphering complex medical information for a legal, corporate, or personal matter can be downright challenging. Maybe you are a legal professional presented with medical reports in a high-stakes case, and you need professional advice or a definitive medical opinion. Maybe you need to understand a toxicology or injury report. Or maybe you are a journalist reporting a dangerous drug or health trend, but you need medical expertise to explain it in plain English. Maybe you are a corporation requiring advice on occupational drug screening by a qualified Medical Review Officer (MRO).

The fact is, many non-medical professionals who rely on medical information for a legal purpose do not have the formal training, clinical skills, or necessary experience needed to properly understand it, let alone use it to achieve a desired outcome.

This means you face missed opportunities to put forward an optimal case: you or your client do not get the justice they deserve, or your matter is simply left unresolved.

None of these outcomes are desirable. The question is, what can you do instead?

Here’s why legal teams, news outlets, organisations, and individuals trust our expert medical opinions

At Lucid Legal Medicine, we provide medico-legal reports, opinions and other consulting services to legal teams, doctors, insurance companies, the media, other professionals, and members of the general public across Australia. We have provided expert statements in Criminal, Coronial, Civil and Family courts, and our work is robustly peer reviewed.

This means we will help you (or your audience, or your courtroom) understand a complex medical report or situation, so you get a better outcome for your legal, personal, or corporate medico-legal matter.

We are Senior Forensic Physicians with decades of experience. We have provided professional reports in thousands of medico-legal cases, given expert evidence across various courts and so have the knowledge and experience to help you too.

What We Do

We’re a team of friendly, formally-trained forensic physicians with more than 35 years’ of combined experience. We provide medico-legal reports, opinions and other consulting services to legal teams, GPs, insurance companies, the media, other professionals, and members of the general public across Australia.

Expert Medical Statements and Opinions

We provide expert medical opinions to courts, inquiries, and the media. We operate at the nexus of medical and legal matters:  writing expert statements, explaining medical evidence in court, and ‘demystifying’ complex medico-legal matters. Our statements will address the elements of the case specifically in a way that is both comprehensive and easily understood.

Medical Reports Explained In Plain English

We explain complex medical reports and situations in simple, easy-to-understand language. We have worked with legal teams, specialist doctors, insurance companies, other professionals, members of the general public, and major news outlets to decipher complicated medical information.

Other Expert Statements

Expert statements for Court may not have been peer reviewed. We interpret existing medical statements and medical records that may be provided for use in court. We refine the questions your legal teams may want to ask. We help identify lines of inquiry, further information and recommendations, ultimately leading to the best court outcomes.

Proactive Training To Deter Criminal Offending

We have provided lectures to Magistrates, Coroners, Police and doctors at conferences and through regular education sessions. We help deter criminal offending by providing keynotes, training and comprehensive education packages designed for schools and other major institutions. This helps organisations reduce the risk of offending, protects and informs their staff and pupils and demonstrates a mitigation strategy.

How We’re Different

We have extensive formal training and experience

We are medical professionals and forensic experts with extensive knowledge and experience in medico-legal matters. We have provided reports in thousands of criminal and coronial cases.

We provide a rapid response that is immediately useful

We understand you are busy, and that you need a result or outcome as quickly as possible. We will incorporate this into our delivery process and will provide you with a realistic timeframe during our first consultation.

We analyse the bigger picture, from both a medical and legal perspective

Our approach combines medical expertise, legal acumen, and a commitment to present the most comprehensive assessment possible. This integrated strategy enables us to provide keen practical judgment and unique insights to maximise clarity of case presentation and inform decision-making.

We are versatile clinicians, not single-discipline laboratory scientists

Medical matters and toxicology reports are best explained by clinicians with decades of experience in forensic and clinical medicine. We have extensive experience in the clinical space, within diverse locations such as emergency departments, general practice, intensive care and even watch houses.  This broad experience means you get a comprehensive report giving you the best possible outcome.

We are broadly-experienced physicians, not pathologists

Most medico-legal opinions require an analysis of effects on a living human body, not a deceased one. The focus of many legal questions relate to when a person was alive, such as the effects of a drug or of their clinical care.  We use our broad experience as clinicians to provide a relevant and prospective clinical opinion particularly for coronial matters.

Our solutions are customised to your desired outcome, and backed by research literature

We understand that each case is unique, and we tailor our services to meet the specific requirements of our clients. This personalised approach ensures that we address the individual needs and concerns of each case effectively.   We also use peer-reviewed literature and other research resources to provide weight to our formal opinions and services.
